THOUGHT LEADERSHIP

FROM INSIGHTS TO IMPACT: DATA-DRIVEN STRATEGIES FOR CUSTOMER TRAINING
In this session, my colleague DJ and I will share a data maturity model used to assess the current state of your customer training strategy and identify clear, actionable next steps for growth. Attendees will participate in an interactive activity to map their organization’s data capabilities and explore how to turn insights into meaningful learning outcomes. This presentation will take place at an upcoming conference in Toronto in June. A link to the presentation materials will be added here following the event.

SKILLS KITCHEN: COOKING UP TRAINING SOLUTIONS FAST
At the 2024 ATD Cascadia conference in Portland, Oregon, I co-presented this hands-on session with my colleagues, DJ and Amanda. Participants explored creative ways to develop training solutions quickly and effectively in response to real-world business needs. Using a “menu” of topics, tools, methods, and modalities, attendees collaborated to build their own just-in-time training plans—and discovered some “secret ingredients” along the way. This interactive session highlighted practical strategies for designing agile learning solutions that meet the fast-paced demands of today’s work environment.

REFINE YOUR VISUALIZATIONS, TELL YOUR STORY, ACHIEVE YOUR OBJECTIVE!
In this interactive session prepared for an ATD Cascadia chapter special event in October of 2023, I guided participants through the art of data-driven storytelling. Attendees explored techniques for analyzing, organizing, and visually presenting data in ways that drive business outcomes. The session included hands-on collaboration, peer feedback, and practical tips for selecting effective chart types, maximizing visual impact, and using free data visualization tools. Participants walked away with strategies to turn complex information into compelling, actionable stories.

DESIGNING FOR ACCESSIBILITY, LEARNING FOR ALL!
Prepared for ATD Cascadia's December 2020 chapter meeting, this presentation explores practical strategies and standards for creating inclusive eLearning. I highlight key accessibility principles—including WCAG guidelines, color contrast, navigation, and captioning—and connects them to learner impact and business value. The session offers actionable tips for overcoming common challenges and emphasizes the importance of designing for all learners, not simply to comply with regulatory requirements.

SMART VISUAL DESIGN CHOICES THAT IMPROVE INSTRUCTIONAL IMPACT
In this interactive session, prepared for the ATD Cascadia April 2020 chapter meeting, I explore how thoughtful visual design can improve learning effectiveness. I share practical strategies rooted in cognitive theories like Mayer’s Multimedia Learning and Cognitive Load Theory, helping participants make informed design choices. The session covers common pitfalls and best practices—such as alignment, hierarchy, and contrast—while offering real-world examples and tips to enhance clarity and engagement.
